"THE humble single took a step closer to redundancy yesterday when the Australian Record Industry Association unveiled a new system for calculating its pop charts.

For the first time in the chart's history, a song does not have to be physically released in stores to be included in the singles chart.

Also confirmed yesterday was the inclusion for the first time of legally downloaded albums in the Australian albums chart."

I guess on the whole, its a great step toward future successes for local "small fry" artists..  what with beatport et al. recieving recognition as legitimate music peddlers!  yay!
