PLASTINATION
A severely underpromoted non-rave event.
Does everyone know of Gunter Von Haagens? That guy who cuts up bodies on SBS on Monday nights and wears that strange hat.
He invented plastination. A process than preserves tissue and makes it possible to arrange parts of the human body in amazing ways.
Well there is an exhibition of plastination going on NOW at the Showgrounds.
It is not quite the sculptural 'Bodyworks' exhibition made by Gunter himself which is really quite edgy and expressive but it is worth a look
Now the exhibition itself really deserves a better venue and a little more attention to detail but some of the stuff in there is fucking amazing!! (can anyone imagine the complete vascular system on its own, free of its confines?)
anyway... it's about $23 for nonstudents.

Okay... Who's going?
I MUST SEE THIS EXHIBITION!!!
Daim.... U heading in? Or have u already been? I'm even going to go solo if my schedule don't coordinate with others!
I've been.
and tailz... you must see this exhibition. :)
(can anyone imagine the complete vascular system on its own, free of its confines?)
yes
but I grew up reading childcraft books, and they had one of those things like in the tool album
Yeah, it looks great. Might go closer to the end as my time is precious at the moment. That's why I'm here.

while it seems a few degrees removed from the creep from raiders of the lost ark, curiosity will lead me there this friday i think.
julia de ville
on the topic of dead things, an exhibition 'elan vital (the force that brings inanimate objects to life)' - jewellery by julia de ville is running 21 may - 9 june at eg etal, downstairs at 167 flinders lane & 185 little collins st. ?the opening was tonight 22nd may, downstairs 167 flinders lane. she has quite a beautiful website which i think says it all: http://www.juliadeville.com/
a ?couple of examples (for the vegos out there, she only uses animals which have already died from natural causes):

the opening was a bit disappointing - there are only a dozen or so pieces at 167 flinders (and it was full of art-wankers BUT french champagne). ?there were more pieces (especially the mice) at the fat boutique in the gpo building (they may still be there). ?i don't know what's in the other boutique yet (i think it's near allanah hill). ?apparently she did a big show at the ngv some time ago, including a kitten with diamond teeth. ?i don't know a lot, but now that's my idea of a pet!
yep a dead cat. just the way cats should be, sorry to all the cat lovers (ren, the cat is safe man it's cool). cept i'll trade the diamonds in for cash so i can buy more booze.
