Hi There All
As most of you know, I am completing my honours project and have finally got the blasted survey up online. Please read the following and complete the survey. it will take you savvy types no more than about 20mins to complete and might make the difference between me getting the accreditation I need, and being published or not this year!!! My study needs at least two hundred and fifty respondents to have any weight...

Drugs and Driving Research
We are from the Brain Sciences Institute at Swinburne University, in Victoria.
We are interested in the behaviours and attitudes of Victorian drivers in terms of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. More specifically, we are particularly interested in what factors motivate or deter people from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
We require people aged 18 to 99 to complete a short online survey about themselves, their driving behaviours, and attitudes towards driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Some of the information you provide will relate to illegal activity (drug use and driving illegally under the influence of drugs and alcohol) however, all the information you provide will be completely anonymous and you will not be identifiable from your responses.
You must have lived in Victoria at any time between 2004 and 2007. We will not be able to use your information if you do not meet this criteria.
The survey will take no more than 20-30 minutes to complete. You can complete this at in your own time, at any computer with internet access (although we do suggest completing it in a private location where you can keep your responses confidential). All information submitted will be completely anonymous, protected by a secure electronic server, and you will not be identifiable, in any way, from your responses.
We would really appreciate your time and consideration in completing this study to further our knowledge about the attitudes and behaviours of Victorian drivers.

there were a couple of grammatical errors in there somewhere .. but I didn't take much notice ..
I think its the same with all surveys of this nature but some of the questions require a different response than the options given .. but oh well .. all good!

That's the point of forced choice.
I agree the instruments are not much chop, but they're validated and therefore can tell us more than one that's all made up from scratch...
And grammatical errors are what I need to be picked up on. Proff reading that fucker was a pain in the ass!!!

Not really.
Even if a cop was standing over your shoulder as you did it and saw your responses, for them to aprehend you after a criminal act, you MUST admit the crime to them directly (I checked with the head of the Victorian drug-driving initiative).
So, your responses to my survey are not actual admissions of guilt. I had to go through hell with the research ethics committee over this. Part of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research (2007) is that I do not put a participant at risk of civil or criminal liability. The ethics team thought I was, the coppers said I wasn't... I won!!!
It's actually quite interesting the lengths we have to go through to get ethics approval. This is the major reason the survey is so worded so wanky and filled with disclaimers.
That's my FYI rant for the day...
